Steven Hassel obtained his B.Com (Acc) from the University of South Africa in 1981 and followed this with a M.B.A. from the University of Cape Town in 1985. In 1997 he obtained the advance certificate in Shopping Centre Leadership through the University of Pretoria. He also qualified as an Estate Agent (RICS equivalent) in 1985.

Steven’s experience started in 1976 as Financial Accountant for Tollgate Holdings whose subsidiaries include Public Transportation, Life Insurance, Property Development and Motor Engineering. He joined the Barlow Rand Group in 1981 as Management Accountant in the Manufacturing and Building Supply Division. He moved to Monex Development in 1985, the developers of Tyger Valley Centre, as Assistant General Manager. In 1986 he joined forces with Trevor Blow and formed Lordland Property Holdings which took over the management and development of Tyger Valley Centre, the re-development of the Blue Route Centre and the “Neelsie” Student Centre. In 1989 Lordland Property Holdings was appointed as Core Consultants for the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town and made Managing Agents in 1992 and continue to hold this appointment.

The growth and success of Lordland since 1986 is in no short measure due to Steven’s financial expertise and experience and the projects in which Lordland has been involved.

Steven has been based in London since 1997 where he was the responsible partner in the joint venture project Gunwharf Quays with the Berkeley Group plc.

Steven formed Lordland International in 1996 and started operating independently in the UK during 2002.

Karen Bullock Isman obtained her BSc (Hons) from the University of North Carolina in 1971 and is a graduate of the International Council of Shopping Centres.

Karen’s experience started as general Manager of the Houston Galleria in Texas, USA from 1979 – 1982. She moved to the South Coast Plaza where she was Director of Leasing until 1985. She then joined the Edward Plant Company as Retail Broker until 1990. She moved to England in 1990 as International Retail Director for the Carroll Group and was responsible for the Hatfield Galleria

In 1991 she moved to Chelsfield as Leasing and Marketing Director following the acquisition of the Merry Hill Shopping Centre. In 1994 she started her own consultancy, Isman Associates, specialising in developing tenant mix and marketing strategies, including the repositioning and renovation of the Grafton Centre in Cambridge, The St John Centre in Perth, The Arndale Centre in Luton and others. She acted for numerous institutional clients as the Grosvenor Estates, The Prudential Property Portfolio, Hammersons plc and Chelsfield.

Karen joined Lordland International in 2002 as Marketing Director.
